Site

Hentley Farm is a very special property spread over approximately 150 acres. 100 acres is currently planted, with another 20 acres of planned planting. The property has great diversification east and west-facing slopes and a hundred metre altitude variance from the top blocks down to the banks of Greenock Creek. This results in a great variety of terroir at Hentley Farm which in turn leads to our unique wines displaying complex aroma and flavour profiles.

Soil

The soils are red clay loams, generally overlaying shattered limestone (Terra Rossa) with lightly rocked slopes and little top soil. Topsoil depths vary from around 10-50cm. Subsoils are generally tightly structured massive to friable clay with varying depths of regarding saprolite (parent material) composed of mainly limestone. The tightly structured clays have massive water holding potential and slow permeability.

The topsoil and subsoil pH ranges from 6.5-5.5 leaving this as neutral slightly on the alkaline side.
