The Beauty & The Beast – Morgan Dunn, WinePilot.Com

Posted 20 November, 2020
"I tried to watch Beauty and the Beast again this week. The live action remake from 2017, I mean – the one with Hermione and the guy from Downton Abbey.  Once again, I abandoned it. I do rather like the idea of Ewan McGregor and Ian McKellen as Lumière and Cogsworth but I just can’t get that far. Because there’s just something, and I can’t quite believe I’m saying this, something magical about the original. That haunting opening with the stain-glass motifs, the eeriness of the castle, the catchiness and…

Angus Hughson – Luxury Collection Review – WinePilot.Com

Posted 16 October, 2020
Hentley Farm has had the privilege of having the 2020 release of the Luxury Collection wines reviewed by Angus Hughson for the WinePilot.Com. Rated on a 100-point scale: - 2018 ‘The Beast’ Shiraz 96 Points Drink 2024 – 2036 The Beauty and The Beast – Hentley Farm’s two popular shiraz although each with their own unique style. Different vintages work for different wines but for 2018 my money is on The Beast, a name that it matches up to particularly well in this warm vintage. There is nothing subtle here and the…

Matt Dunne – Luxury Collection Review – WinePilot.Com

Posted 16 October, 2020
Hentley Farm has had the privilege of having the 2020 release of the Luxury Collection wines reviewed by Matt Dunne for the WinePilot.Com. - 2018 ‘von Kasper’ Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points Excited to see where this can go and for cabernet to stamp its own unique personality in a region where it is often overlooked by shiraz. Bright aromatics jump out of the glass – blackcurrant jam, earth and black pepper. Palate is firm and high-toned with black olive tapenade, black plum and a lick of blue fruit (blueberry pie) and…

Melissa Moore – Luxury Collection Review – WinePilot.Com

Posted 16 October, 2020
Hentley Farm has had the privilege of having the 2020 release of the Luxury Collection wines reviewed by Melissa Moore for the WinePilot.Com. 2018 ‘The Beast’ Shiraz Packaged like the von Kasper cabernet in the classic old bottle under cork, this wine is the broody foil to the elegance of The Beauty: intense, dark chocolate and mocha, blackcurrant compote, spiced plum pudding layered over chocolate éclair but with savoury notes of liquorice and even steak tartare. The oak is more prevalent here than previous wines, in spice, vanilla and cigar box aromatics,…

"The Creation concept highlights what makes Hentley Farm so unique; our vineyards diversity" - Andrew Quin. Each year since 2009, our winemaker Andrew Quin has created a limited release single block wine, The Creation, that explores and showcases the terroir effect of unique diversity across the estates blocks and the reward that comes from Keith Hentschke's meticulous vineyard planning. Hentley Farm’s Chief Winemaker Andrew Quin has recently spent time over Zoom with Perth-Based Wine Reviewer Erin Larkin. Looking at over eleven wines, Erin has shared a portion of her highlights: – 2017 CLOS OTTO  100% Shiraz Packaged in a heavy bottle, with wax and cork seal.  The label is velvet flocking.  Impactful and showy. Clonal variation:  Planted by a German guy called Otto Kasper – he got cuttings from a friends place in Angaston.  They’re not a selected clone.  Hard clay soil. Winemaking is similar to the Beast.  The Clos Otto…

Wine Advocate

Wine Advocate  Hentley Farm has had the privilege of having the following wines reviewed by Joe Czerwinski, rated on a 100-point scale: 2016 Clos Otto Shiraz - 97RP The 2016 Shiraz Clos Otto is as good a wine as I can recall tasting from Hentley Farm. Boasting tremendous concentration, it somehow manages to harness that into a balanced, nuanced wine that should drink well for a decade and a half. Grace notes of mocha, vanilla and caramel sound like the latest hideous drink from Dunkin, but here it actually adds complexity to the bold…

The Complicated Art of Crafting a Wine Icon

Posted 16 June, 2020
South Australia can lay claim to several wines that have achieved the status of icon in terms of their quality, value and desirability, but just how many stars have to align before a wine can claim icon status? The Adelaide Review 2 June 2020 by David Sly The ancient, gnarled Shiraz vines on Henschke’s four-hectare Hill of Grace vineyard in Barossa’s Eden Valley are so delicate that their grapes can only be picked by hand or the vines’ straggly arms risk breaking. Planted in 1860, they are brittle and produce tiny berries…

Drinking – Angus Hughson

Posted 16 June, 2020
VARIETY IS THE SPICE. This vineyard is full of surprises. One property, one place and such very different wines. This is the story of Hentley Farm in the Barossa Valley’s Seppeltsfield sub-region. It is the story of how, more or less, a single place has the capacity to create stunningly different wines. Also how the position of a creek, subtly different soils and the angle of a hill is enough to completely transform wines from elegant on the one had to dense and bold on the other It is a little…

2018 Vintage Report

Posted 05 June, 2018
"Good things come to those who wait”.   Nearly everything about the 2018 vintage happened more slowly than usual and we will be rewarded with wines showing a perfect mix of power and elegance. Although we had to wait until July for rains to arrive, the 2017 calendar year rainfall was a once- in-a-30- year event.  The long-term weather pattern of two above average rainfall years being followed by a relatively dry year, was seemingly broken, as although we were expecting dryer conditions, we received 120mm above average rainfall, with…
