The launch of Matthew Jukes’ sixteenth 100 Best Australian Wines Report is, as always, a body of work which took a full twelve months to collate. Hentley Farm Wines is thrilled to have ‘The Beast’ Shiraz & ‘H-Block’ Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon included in this year’s list.
“Hentley Farm’s recent vintages have all been impressive, but The Beast, with its crepuscular fruit and monumental finish, looks staggeringly serious in 2016. It wears a fair amount of oak, the alcohol is not shy and this is a big wine with a hulking frame and yet it manages to sail across the palate serenely, making it one of the purest and most opulent wines in this 100 Best. I normally write the word ‘seductive’ about The Beauty (another wine in the Hentley Farm portfolio) but in 2016, The Beast managed to snag this descriptor, too.
2016 H-Block Cabernet / Shiraz (£125, 15%, www.carsoncarnevalewines.com) was a gold medal winner in last year’s The Great Australian Red competition and it is my favourite vintage of this wine to date. This is a superstar creation which people go completely gaga for when they taste it and I will sing its praises because it is a perfect ambassador for the blend that defines Australia.”
