2018 ‘von Kasper’ Cabernet Sauvignon
94 Points
Excited to see where this can go and for cabernet to stamp its own unique personality in a region where it is often overlooked by shiraz. Bright aromatics jump out of the glass – blackcurrant jam, earth and black pepper. Palate is firm and high-toned with black olive tapenade, black plum and a lick of blue fruit (blueberry pie) and some aromatic herbs rounding out the super-fine, energetic palate. Will age a treat!

Grenache with personality! With some extended maceration for 45 days and 35% whole bunch, this wine has solid framework, approachable now but built for the long-haul. The fruit is from three parcels of individually treated grenache. Super floral with dried rose petals and lavender. Palate is medium weight with milk chocolate, wild plum, kirsh and some spicy oak toastiness. Terrific wine with a bright future!

Excited that the Barossa continues to champion this iconic Aussie blend. Boysenberry, liquorice stick with a minor amount of warmth. Fine tannins and earthy core but underlying fresh acidity and whack of grippy tannin to give some grunt and precision on the back palate. Definitely worthy of a decant and or a big glass, and matched with a juicy fillet steak!
